What are some pro’s and con’s to a Gemienhardt open hole flute?

I have been playing an Yamaha 221 flute for the last 4 years. i have the option to get a Germienhardt Open Hole Flute for $400(usually $1,600) is this a good deal?( its used.) Also what are the good and the bad things about these flutes.Lastly is open hole or closed hole better? any info would be helpful! thxx!!!

Germienhardts are great flutes. I would buy the open hole model, playing open hole to me does make me sound more open but It can be extremely frustrating to get your fingers to cover the holes in the beginning. That’s why you should buy the open holed model, and purchase some hole plugs with it so you could just take out one hole plug at a time. Personally I find the L2 (Left Hand middle finger A key) Key and the F Key (right hand first finger) to be the easiest to start with.
anouther great thing about open holed is it let’s you do some cool note bends if you play Jazz
