Are there any circumstances under which copying music from a CD for another person is legal?

Hi. I was just wondering whether there are circumstances under which copying music from a CD and giving it someone else would be legal. For example, what if a piano teacher wanted to copy one or two tracks from a CD to give to a student. Since it is being used for education purposes, would that be considered legal? If not, what circumstances would have to apply?

Yes. Many bars hire musicians to play cover songs in their establishments. This requires that the bar buy an ASCAP license. For the musicians to share the songs amongst themselves for the purpose of learning the material is considered fair use.
