The Music Man (1962 Film Soundtrack) $4.50 In light of all the hit Broadway musicals that have stumbled in their translation to the big screen, The Music Man stands out as an exception; it is one of the best-loved movie musicals of all time. A great deal of the credit goes to composer Meredith Willson, who resisted studio pressure to hire a big name for the title role (Frank Sinatra or Cary Grant) in favor of the Tony-winning stage star, R… |

Groundhog Day (15th Anniversary Special Edition) [Blu-ray] $9.13 Bill Murray does warmth in his most consistently effective post-Stripes comedy, a romantic fantasy about a wacky weatherman forced to relive one strange day over and over again, until he gets it right. Snowed in during a road-trip expedition to watch the famous groundhog encounter his shadow, Murray falls into a time warp that is never explained but pays off so richly that it doesn’t need to be. Advice on this piano piece (video included)?
Can anyone give me advice on me playing this piano piece?
comments about the speed, style, baroque-ness and anything else.
Whenever I play it it sounds like there’s something I’m missing…
I want to improve it before piano lessons on Thursday, and definitely before my piano exam. Plus I’m just about to practise piano.

You’re doing quite well.
I hear some ‘flatness’ of the phrases, that is they need more nuance dynamic shaping (in tempo, of course). This will give them more shape and expressiveness.
This includes ‘finishing’ the end note of each phrase, which in this clip you are not doing. Press and lift the finger on the last note of the phrase, and perhaps ‘lift’ your hand a bit to get it nice and rounded (do not lift your hand so you are too far away from the keys) is the best I can say without ‘being there.’
Remember phrasing should be analogous to commas, periods, etc. in speech where there are slight ‘air spaces’ in the delivery.
Singing the lines as you play, or away from the piano, will immediately give you a better sense of this. (sing in any octave in which you are comfortable, and don’t worry about the quality of your voice.) Because when you sing, you have to breath.
Someone has already pointed out the Left Hand unsteadiness (tempo, notes). Practice hands apart, each time Singing the other line.
best regards, petr b.
