Becoming a member of the Longhorn Band is no easy task, but fortunately for you, you've chosen to try out for the largest section in the band. Our numbers can go into the 70's, and lets face it, without us, LHB would be you know where without a paddle.
Now before you get too cocky, be aware that just because there are a ton of us doesn't mean that you're immune to getting cut. Hopefully this page will serve as a guide for you, so you can do your best not to get cut. Now that that's all said and done, here are the details. Membership in the Longhorn Band is determined by TWO auditions. The first is a preliminary playing audition performed for the directors (just to make sure you actually can play the trumpet. Once you pass that audition, you're asked to come to Band Week, where we teach you LHB fundamentals and all that good stuff. You then audition by playing selected music individually, and then by marching in a squad of four to demonstrate fundamentals. So, keep practicing over the summer, and stop by LHB clinics when you can to get an edge on everyone else. Our section is very competitive, so you've got to stay on your toes if you expect to make it. With that said, make sure your mouthpiece meets your face every once and a while, and good luck with your auditions.
