Cleaning cymbals? help?
I played an outdoor gig a few weeks ago and of course it rain and I’ve recently noticed what looks like a bit of rust on my cymbals. Any tips on how to get it off?
They’re all Zildjian ZXT if it helps (not the titanium ones)
Water damage, generally called cymbal rust on cymbals, starts with green discoloration and would leave a permanent brown to black spots. You should keep your cymbals in dry and no humidity conditions. Cymbals might be stored in rooms with dehumidifiers or where heating is active in winter reducing humidity.
If you have to play outdoors, play them under canopies or such, but if the get for some reason dry them with a paper towel or dry soft cloth immediate. You can further clean them with only mild and non-abrasive special cleaners that should be applied on cymbals. Mechanical buffing methods that remove metal from cymbals are not recommended.
We strongly not recommend applying a coat like silicon, polish or oil on cymbals that will change their sound characteristics.
We hope this will help.
